Paper Towns Original Motion Picture Soundtrack – Review

Paper Towns OST

Ahead of the release of the Paper Towns film, we have a listen to The Paper Towns – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack- released by Atlantic Records, which arrived in stores, and is also available through online retailers, on July 10th- that was yesterday in NZ.

Adapted from the award-winning bestseller by author John Green (who wrote The Fault in Our Stars) of the same name, Paper Towns is a coming-of-age story that centres around Quentin (Nat Wolff) and his enigmatic neighbour Margo (Cara Delevingne), who loved mysteries so much she became one. After taking him on an all-night revenge-ture (that’s revenge adventure) through their hometown, Margo suddenly disappears, leaving behind cryptic clues for Quentin to decipher.

The soundtrack brings together some new and some previously released material to make a pretty solid musical companion, with songs from Santigold, Grouplove, HAIM, Vampire Weekend, The Mountain Goats, Twin Shadow, The War on Drugs, Galantis and Quentin himself, I mean Nat Wolff and his brother Alex Wolff.

My favourites, in no particular order, are:

Santigold – Radio

– Such a good track, I could jam to this all day. Also, Santigold. New Santigold sounds!

Twin Shadow – To The Top

– It’s one that you can just chill out to.

Sam Bruno – Search Party

– Also a good track, suits the story very well. When rereading the book the other day I couldn’t help but chuck this track on as background music. Greatest idea I had that day.

There’s an MV too.

Vampire Weekend – Taxi Cab

– Because I love me some Vampire Weekend and this song was one of my favourite tracks from their Contra album.

No more reasons just the list of my favs, quick disclaimer- I have a tendency to change favs so this list won’t be the same next week. But for now, here are some other favourites from the soundtrack.

Kindness – Swingin Party

Vance Joy – Great Summer

HAIM – Falling

Grouplove – No Drama Queen

Nat & Alex Wolff – Look Outside
