Food is any material consumed to provide nutrition to the organisms. A vegetarian, for example, will need to have a completely different diet than the more active person. Another major challenge facing dieters today is to ensure that the food they consume is rich in macronutrients. Macronutrients are essential to the body, as they provide all the energy it needs to function. Typically, the richest macronutrients are found in nuts, seeds, grains and legumes. If you do not eat allot of these foods, you may have to look for other sources of protein such as fish and eggs. Nuts, seeds and grains are good sources of proteins that are rich in vitamins and minerals, which help in providing the necessary nutrients for a healthy diet.
Many people find it difficult to shift to a vegetarian or vegan diet, as they love their meat, but they cannot seem to get enough of the essential nutrients. This is because a large part of our diet consists of packaged foods that contain high levels of salt, sugar and fat, while hardly providing any nutritional value at all.
